8 YEARS IN A ROW! SUSAN TURNBULL TAKES TOP REGIONAL ART HONORS

(Rapid City, SD – May 22, 2006) – For the past eight years, Susan Turnbull, painter, illustrator and advertising executive, has received the highest awards given for advertising art in the 8th District ADDY® Awards Competition.

The 8th District includes Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The ADDY® Awards are the industry's largest and most representative competition for creative excellence. The works entered in the annual ADDY® awards represent the finest in advertising and creativity in the US for the past calendar year.

This year Turnbull received two District Gold ADDY® Awards, both of which have been forwarded to the National Competition. The two award winning paintings include a poster illustration for The Black Hills Playhouse and product tags for Turnbull's prints and paintings as featured in the Wild Blue Yonder gift shop (Rapid City, SD) and the Shaman Gallery (Hot Springs, SD).

"It's one thing for an artist to win an occasional award like that," says Adam Heath, owner of the Shaman Art Gallery, "but quite another to be recognized as a top illustrator in those states year, after year, after year. And this year she won awards for two of her paintings in one year. That's really remarkable! I bet some of the illustrators in the big Minneapolis and Milwaukee agencies are wondering what kind of magic do they have in the water out there in South Dakota ."

Heath and his wife, Linda, share an extensive painting collection by American Masters, many of whom were also commercial illustrators like Turnbull. Their Shaman Gallery often highlights works of these internationally recognized artists to draw people into the gallery.

Their impressive collection includes works by RC Gorman, Fritz Scholder, Earl Biss, Kevin Red Star and many others. Adam now routinely carries a variety of Susan Turnbull paintings and drawings as well.

"Susan's painting 'Cowgirl Barbie Does Picasso' sold almost immediately. It's one of the pieces that won at District this year." says Heath.
